There are significant gaps in family violence and sexual violence services in Aotearoa New Zealand. This means not everyone can access the support they need when they experience or use violence. Tangata whenua, Pacific peoples, disabled people, LGBTQIA+ communities, children and young people, ethnic communities, older people and people who use violence are especially impacted by service gaps.
Te Aorerekura — the National Strategy to Eliminate Family Violence and Sexual Violence — calls on government to identify service gaps across Aotearoa and to create a plan to address the family violence gaps (Action 29) and a plan to address the sexual violence gaps (Action 30). This work is being led by the Ministry of Social Development.
To create comprehensive plans, we need to ensure we fully understand the service gaps that people are experiencing. We also need a transparent and fair process to support decisions about the order that FVSV service gaps will be addressed in the Plans.
So to support development of these gaps plans, we sought public feedback on:

Next steps
We received lots of useful feedback and the team is working their way through it. We will publish the final list of service gaps and the criteria on this page once we have finished incorporating the feedback.
Later in the year we will release the final plans along with a summary of submissions.
